چکیده

A software tool, AuvTool, for statistical analysis of variability and uncertainty associated with fitting distributions to data sets is being developed for use with the Stochastic Human Exposure Dose Simulation (SHEDS) modeling framework. It is also generally applicable for quantifying variability and uncertainty in data sets used for risk assessment, emissions estimation and other quantitative analysis fields. The tool features the use of bootstrap simulation and twodimensional Monte Carlo simulation for simultaneously quantifying variability and uncertainty. Object-oriented programming techniques are applied to the development of the software tool. This paper presents the software structure design and development considerations, and introduces the main function modules and features included in the software tool. These features are: 1) an input data sheet similar to a spreadsheet for data input, which also can import or export Microsoft Excel and tab-limited text files; (2) parameter estimation for common parametric distributions; (3) Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Anderson-Darling statistical test measures to help the user choose a good fit; (4) batch analysis to help the user to handle a large number of datasets efficiently; (5) uncertainty analysis for variables without original data; (6) further analysis of the sampling data of statistics of interests from bootstrap simulation; and (7) instant graphical presentation of simulation results and tabular summarization of variability and uncertainty analysis results. In most cases, two parameter estimation methods, including method of matching moments and maximum likelihood estimation, will be available. An example case study is used to illustrate the application of the software tool.

Lost in Translation: Piloting a Novel Framework to Assess the Challenges in Translating Scientific Uncertainty From Empirical Findings to WHO Policy Statements

Background Calls for evidence-informed public health policy, with implicit promises of greater program effectiveness, have intensified recently. The methods to produce such policies are not self-evident, requiring a conciliation of values and norms between policy-makers and evidence producers. In particular, the translation of uncertainty from empirical research findings, particularly issues of...

Development of a regional attenuation relationship for Alborz, Iran

New attenuation relationships for rock and soil in Alborz, have been developed in this study. When the quantity of usable ground-motion data is inadequate in the magnitude and distance ranges, development of an empirical prediction equation is deficient. Due to lack of data, the two well-known simulation techniques, point source and finite-fault models have been used to generate more than ten t...

Assessment of Green Supplier Development Programs by a New Group Decision-Making Model Considering Possibilistic Statistical Uncertainty

The assessment and selection of green supplier development programs are an intriguing and functional research subject. This paper proposes a group decision-making approach considering possibilistic statistical concepts under uncertainty to assess green supplier development programs (GSDPs) via interval-valued fuzzy sets (IVFSs). Possibility theory is employed to regard uncertainty by IVFSs. A n...

Safety Analysis of the Patch Load Resistance of Plate Girders: Influence of Model Error and Variability

This study aims to undertake a statistical study to evaluate the accuracy of nine models that have been previously proposed for estimating the ultimate resistance of plate girders subjected to patch loading. For each model, mean errors and standard errors, as well as the probability of underestimating or overestimating patch load resistance, are estimated and the resultant values are compared o...

Genetic Variability of Access of the Active Germplasm Bank of Coffea canephora of Incaper in Southern Espírito Santo

This study aimed to analyze the genetic variability of 323 accessions of the Active Germplasm Bank (BAG) of Coffea canephora of the Institute for Research, Technical Assistance and Rural Extension of Espírito Santo (Incaper) using 38 quantitative phenotypic characters. The standardized average Euclidean distance between the accessions was estimated to generate a statistical distance matrix and,...
